Winter weather isn’t known to be kind to a home’s best features – such as a nice lawn or a great pool and can even bring about unknown flaws such as a bad roof. That doesn’t mean you should hold off on selling your home! Here are some expert tips for selling in the winter!
With the wild winter weather it is important to think about what can happen to your home. Puddles in your yard or a leaky roof are not what buyers want to see at an open house. While the first thought is to fix these problems ahead of time, that isn’t the only option. For instance, if drainage issues are taking over your yard, get a few quotes about how much it would cost to fix them. Then sit down with your Realtor to decide how much of that cost you would be willing to pay during the closing process. If a potential buyer points it out, you have a ready response to keep the process going.
Refresh those photos! Buyers will have a hard time imagining your home’s beauty in the sun while they are looking at it covered in snow. Put those sunny photos front and center, on the listing and fliers at the open house. Even if it is too late to get professional photos taken, person photos will do.
Think of ways to make your home cozy and warm to potential buyers coming in from winter weather. If you have a fireplace – turn it on or at least put on a few logs for display. If warm cookies are too predicable for you – try a seasonal item such as hot coco or apple cider!
