Don’t Be Chicken – Get In With The Trend of Backyard Farms

Why Waste Time and Money At The Grocery Store – Grow From Home

When looking for a home what makes your wish list? A pool? Open floor plan? What about a farm in the backyard? This growing trend of replacing the lawn with a garden, beehive, or chicken coop has started to knockout traditional landscaping in homes across the nation. Just as trading in a Hummer for a Hybrid has become a more popular decision, being able to step out of the back door to get fresh vegetables, honey or eggs is becoming the ideal backyard setup.

Not only is a backyard farm an attractive addition to your current home but it can add value to your home when trying to sell it. Some refer to chicken coops as “yesterday’s solar panel” – a unique feature that is becoming an asset to green buyers. One positive of backyard farms is that it is a one size fits all feature – big and small backyards can be transformed into farms. While larger yards give more flexibility for chicken coop design and enjoyment, smaller yards can still have the same features. Most chicken coops and beehives do not require a lot of space but can offer a lot of rewards.

Before heading to Lowe’s right away to start your backyard farm you should know the regulations regarding your new additions. Fortunately, local and national governments are beginning to see the benefits of at home agriculture and are introducing incentives to encourage more people to become backyard farmers. Even though the government may be on board make sure to check with your neighborhood regulations or HOA restrictions. Just because the city has approved coops doesn’t mean your subdivision has approved chickens.
