Part One: Outside
As we continue to get back to the basics at Wilson Realty Group, we wanted to share some tips with anyone considering selling their home. This will be a 5 part series so be on the lookout for more information!
While the weather is still nice we are starting with the outside of your home. Curb appeal matters! This is the first impression a buyer has of your home, so you want to make it a great one. Remember: You never get a second chance to make a first impression!
- Keep the yard mowed and raked at all times. The season is about to change and leaves will be falling so make sure you allow for extra time to rake them up.
- Use flowering plants to dress up the yard, walkway or patio. Now is a great time to also start thinking about adding pumpkins or lanterns to your outdoor spaces!
- Remove all toys, bicycles, tools, unsightly patio furniture, and trash from the yard. After the summer months take a look around – could your patio furniture use a little power washing or how about a fresh coat of paint?
- Porches, steps, verandas, balconies, patios and other extensions of the house should be kept uncluttered, swept and in good condition.
- Paint all entrance doors. Make sure your entrance is nice and fresh, so that buyers want to come in!
- Make sure the garage door opens easily. Fix and paint the garage door if necessary.
- Clean and shine all hardware and accessories indoors and out (door knobs, knockers, lamps, mail box, address numbers, etc).
- Trees and shrubs should be trimmed and pruned.
- Put out a new doormat.
- Be sure the front doorbell is in good working order.
- Be sure the front door and screen door work properly.
